Lesson 6 is an especially exciting lesson that covers an original composition of mine, "Baby Herbie," which I wrote to celebrate the birth of my second son, Herbie. We will briefly analyze this piece, which uses the basic ii-V-I-VI chord progression in C major as well as the ii-V-I chord progression in Bb major and in Ab major. Improvisational concepts covered include the following:

(1) Alternate bass line

(2) Walking bass line

(3) Anticipation

(4) Call and Response

(5) Comping

Additionally, two PDFs of the transcription of "Baby Herbie" are attached: one in jazz swing notation and one in classical notation, which marks swing using triplets instead of eighth notes.

Also, this is the first lesson that contains a piano roll (one of those keyboard displays whose keys light up as you play) and audio that is synced to the score. Have fun!
